Het moderne museum, ontworpen door architect Constantin Brodski, getuigt van 3 opeenvolgende periodes, van de ijzertijd tot de late middeleeuwen. Het bezit enkele Romeinse bas-reliëfs die hier werden opgegraven. Het beroemde bas-reliëf "De maaimachine van de Trevieren", dat vandaag bewaard wordt in het Musée Gaumais in Virton, werd hier ook opgegraven. Tijdens de zomer verzorgt het "Centre d'Art contemporain du Sud Luxembourg" tentoonstellingen in het museum.Het museum Lapidaire van Montauban is een onmiskenbare referentie op het gebied van moderne architectuur. Het ziet er origineel uit en past perfect in het landschap. In 1956 werd besloten om op de site van Montauban een museum voor archeologische ontdekkingen te bouwen. Er werd een beroep gedaan op de Belgisch-Poolse architect Constantin Brodzki en de ontwerper Corneille Hannoset.De twee mannen kregen de uitdaging om midden in het bos een museum te bouwen. Het museum moest zonder bewaking, zonder personeel en zonder onderhoud beheerd kunnen worden. Na de ontwerpen met glas, ingegeven door de principes van het 'Bauhaus', ontstond bij architect en archeoloog Henri Lacoste het idee van een half ondergronds museum. Brodzki ontwierp daarna een model dat bestond uit vier naast elkaar staande kubussen, half begraven aan de flank van de heuvel, waarbij het licht binnenvalt door één glazen zijkant.
