This beautiful estate consists of 1,500 hectares of forest and four artificial lakes fed by numerous streams. The Les Épioux estate, to the north of Lacuisine and west of Chiny, belongs to the CPAS (Public Centre for Social Welfare) of the town of Mons, who inherited it in 1887, and is managed by the DNF (Nature and Forest Department). In the centre of this estate, the 17th-century Château des Maîtres de Forges stands proudly. The nearby lakes, one of which measures 12 hectares, provide the hydraulic energy needed for the large steelworks. For three centuries the forges in Les Épioux and Roussel (Lower Épioux) were two important centres for south-Luxembourgian metallurgy.
