A vantage point affording panoramic views of Semois country and the forest of Heubeumont.The gorge of Rocher du Chat gives a panoramic view over the Semois and the Ardennes forest of Herbeumont. An impressive landscape that inspires both fear and admiration.A tyrant used to live here called Monseigneur du Chat. One day as he was dozing beside the river, he saw the nymph Semois pass by, ever so pretty. Fancying himself as a ladies’ man he did his best to charm her but to no avail, the pretty nymph was unimpressed by his efforts. In vengeance, Monseigneur du Chat called his friends the cats, all of them vicious and deceitful creatures, and they lined the Semois. This annoyed the beautiful lady and she responded by sending some herons to fly in the air above the rock. The furious Monseigneur rushed down from his rock and went from stone to stone until he got to a rock in the middle of the water. Then some pikes jumped from the water, grabbed Monseigneur le Chat and pulled him into the river. This is why, it is said, cats have had such an aversion to water ever since!
